Dr Dharjinder Rooprai

Dr Rooprai has an illustrious career in psychiatry with over 20 years of experience in this field. After completing his MBBS from India, he went on to do Basic Specialist and Higher Specialist Psychiatry training in the UK. His expertise was recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), which granted him membership in 2007 and later, in 2017, the prestigious Fellowship—a testament to his significant contributions to the field. The Fellowship is a mark of distinction, awarded to those who have been members for over a decade and have demonstrated substantial contributions to the College’s core objectives, which include setting standards and promoting excellence in mental health care, leading and supporting psychiatrists, and collaborating with patients, carers, and related organizations. Additionally, he obtained a Master in Laws (LLM) degree from Northumbria University, UK.

After relocating to Australia in 2018, Dr. Rooprai earned the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry, further cementing his status as a specialist in various psychiatric disorders. His areas of specialization encompass a wide range of conditions, including

  • Adult ADHD (over the age of 17),
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders (over the age of 16),
  • Anxiety Disorders,
  • Bipolar Disorders,
  • Depression—with a focus on treatment-resistant cases and
  • Stress Disorders, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

 

Dr. Rooprai has held significant leadership positions in the UK and Australia. Between 2018 and 2022, he was the Head of Psychiatry at Armadale Mental Health Service. In 2023, he was appointed the Director of Medical Services at Bethesda Clinic. Since March 2024, he has been the acting Medical Co-Director, leading the State Forensic Mental Health Services as it plans to significantly expand its services over the next five years.

Dr Rooprai’s academic pursuits are equally impressive; he is passionate about education, has contributed as an editor to a textbook on Forensic Psychiatry, and is actively engaged in research. His current research interests lie in the intersection of technology and psychiatry, particularly in the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for risk prediction in mental health, and the development of wearable devices for remote patient monitoring.
